I had been looking forward to this camping trip for over a year now. Last weekend was supposed to be the weekend we finally got to go....and then the flu found our house. The plan was to go to Topaz Mountain and the Dugway Geode beds to find rocks--something I've been wanting to cross off my bucket list for a long time. I was extremely excited to camp for Zander's sake since he loves being outside. He could be outside for two whole days exploring and eating campfire food. I wanted to find a geode and go star gazing in the back of the truck with Stephen.
I just wanted a break from everyday life and enjoy being in solitude with my family in the desert for a few days before baby #2 comes, but noooooo Stephen had to catch the flu on Wednesday and me Thursday night right before we were going to leave. We had just finished crossing off our lists of things we needed to bring, got our grocery shopping done, and start packing in the morning until it hit me. Stephen and I were down and out. We took turns with Zander although Stephen, I think, is a secret Superman. It sure seemed like it anyway. With the way we were feeling he took Zander on a walk, fed him, put him down for a nap, and then took him to run errands all day so I could sleep and puke in peace. It was horrible. after it passed we were just waiting for Zander to catch it, but so far so good! I think we dodged that bullet.
So this ended up being our "camping" trip last Sunday when we were feeling a lot better. We used our steaks for philly cheese steak sandwiches instead of tin foil dinners, and roasted marshmallows on the grill and made smores for dessert instead of over a camp fire. It made for a lovely evening I have to admit, but now I have to wait even longer for my camping trip to find a geode and cross it off my bucket list. Maybe next year....
