Two weeks ago I woke up to a strange noise coming from the monitor in Zander's room. I wasn't sure what I heard so I sat up hoping to hear it again to see if I could determine what the noise was and if I needed to go check on him downstairs. I heard it a few more times and raced downstairs because I knew it was Zander making the noise, and something was not right. He was laying in bed wheezing really bad trying to breathe. He was coughing (which was the noise in the monitor) but it was really dry and hoarse sounding; something I had never heard or seen him do. He was perfectly fine all day and before I put him to bed, so I called for Stephen and we determined we needed to take him into urgent care. It was 12:30 by the time we got there, but apparently a 24 hour urgent care means open until midnight, so we had no other choice but to take him to the ER.
The ER was pretty busy with sick people. We checked in and got Zander's vitals and everything before we could see a doctor. He actually sounded a lot better by this time, but we decided we needed to know what happened to him just in case it happened again. We were at the hospital for four hours that night. We didn't get home until around 4:00. Zander was diagnosed with croup. I didn't even know babies still got croup these days. They gave him some motrin and some sort of steroid to help open his airways and sent us home.
He was feeling pretty sick for the rest of the week, but the next day I felt a sore throat coming on. I didn't really think anything of it, but as the week wore on, so did my symptoms. They kept getting worse and worse by the hour. Long story short, I was sick with the worse cold virus I've ever had in my life while 36|37 weeks pregnant. I can't even tell you how miserable I was, especially since I was very limited to any medications because of my pregnancy. It was awful! About a week later Stephen started to come down with the same virus. We ended up, all three of us, going into the urgent care five days after Zander was in the ER because we were so sick. Unfortunately, you can't really treat a virus, so we just had to stick it out. I couldn't really think about my pregnancy because I was so sick, but I was hoping and praying that I wouldn't go into labor until I was feeling better...
