Ugh, One of My Worst Days Ever

I have been in pain for the past two years and have been to five different dentists to tell me what was going on with my tooth. A few weeks ago I found out that a root canal I had done 7 years ago hadn't been done correctly and that I had multiple fractures, a cavity, bone loss, and a broken root which were all getting infected with bacteria making my jaw and gums achy and sore. I hated eating because I could only eat on the left side of my mouth, but any sort of pressure on my jaw shot pain into that tooth no matter what.

Yesterday I went to the dentist early in the morning to get one of my molars extracted to put in an implant later on. I was so nervous that I would feel them pulling my tooth that I was sweating and shaking violently gripping the sides of my chair as he proceeded to pull my tooth. Usually they only stick you twice with the numbing needle, but I didn't think they gave me enough because I thought I still had feeling around that tooth so he stuck me four times with the needle just to be sure; so much so that the entire right side of my face was completely numb--I couldn't even blink my right eye.

It lasted for only an hour until all the broken parts of my tooth were taken out and the metal screw was installed in my jaw. I was still shaking pretty bad as I left the office to go home and sleep. Even though I was numb I could feel the pain of the extraction site already, so the dentist insisted that I should get my prescription pain killers right away. I couldn't go to the store with a half numb face to try to talk to someone, so I decided to wait until Stephen got home from work to get my pills because It took all day for the numbness to wear off. I didn't eat anything when I got home even though I was starving. I read my book and took a nap until Stephen walked in the door later that evening. This extraction was 10 times worse than when I got my wisdom teeth taken out. I didn't even need to take pain killers then.

That evening I took a pill for the pain because I couldn't stand it any more and downed a carnation shake so that my stomach wouldn't hurt. About an hour later my stomach started to ache a little so I thought I ought to try to eat something else. Stephen made me mashed potatoes but as soon as I started eating them my stomach felt worse. I ended up throwing up for the rest of the night. Try throwing up with an excruciating aching jaw!!! I camped out on the bathroom floor for a while; this was the first time I've thrown up for over two years--since before I got married. It still hurts to smile or open my mouth, but hopefully the worst is behind me and I can enjoy this Saturday with my husband.
