Last week I made another trip to Twin for a week. I had some sewing projects I needed to do, and I just wanted to see my family. I left Monday morning so I could have time to unwind and maybe get started on my puff pillow. Well, it took me FIVE hours to get to Twin! That was the scariest drive to Twin Falls I've ever made and it wasn't even snowing. It was the wind. It was SO windy there were rocks, dust and debris, and hordes of tumbleweeds running across the freeway. It was blowing so hard my car was whistling and I didn't dare take my white-knuckled hands off the steering wheel. I struggled to keep the car in my own lane, and it was like playing Russian roulette trying to pass semi trucks because I never knew when one would either get blown on top of me or run me off the road as they tried to keep in their own lanes. There were parts of the drive, as I passed the fields, that dust clouds consumed the car and I could only see the front and back end of my car. I had no idea where I was going or if I was going to crash into the car ahead of me.
I couldn't wait to get home and get out of the wind! I got off my exit only to be told I had to turn around and get back on the freeway. I didn't know what was going on or why there were cars blocking the road across the Hansen bridge, but off again I went. I drove to the next exit a few miles down the road and was told again that I needed to turn around before I got to the Perrine bridge and that I couldn't get into Twin Falls. I asked one of the road workers what was going on and he said all bridges into Twin were closed and that I'd have to drive all the way around to Buhl to get into Twin on the west side of town.
I had no idea how to even get to Buhl so I just kept driving to Jerome with a screaming baby in the back seat. He had been crying since Burley with hunger, so I finally pulled over in a gas station in Jerome to feed Zander. Dad and Tim called to give me directions to Buhl and back to Twin. I finally made it safely home.
I tried to make time to see everyone, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Scott and I had dinner at Tim's house Monday night and played games afterwards. Tuesday I started cutting out my puff pillow and spending time with mom. Mom and I later went to Scott's house to help him clean up and move out back to mom and dad's house. I think he was glad that is over with. Wednesday was a rest day; mom had a cold so we both took naps while Zander was sleeping. I don't even think I worked on my puff pillow at all. I did fix a couple pair of Stephens jeans though. Then Scott and I went to visit Adam and Lynnette. We had dinner and played a game. Thursday I worked all day trying to get my puff pillow all sewn together. The family went out to Idaho pizza for dinner since Sally and Karen were in town, but i only got to stay for about 15 minutes. I had a daddy daughter date with dad. I left Zander with mom at home since she wasn't feeling well and I filled in for her at the arts on tour with dad. We listened to a Hawaiian couple sing and play guitar. Friday I made an apron for Stephen out of a man's button up shirt. That was the last craft day craft that I missed so mom told me how to make it. I made it for Stephen for Father's Day.
Zander loved visiting Grandma and Grandpa. He learned how to move around and wiggle out of his blankets in his crib. Every morning I got him out of bed he was completely turned around from the position I put him in the night before. Mom was able to get him to laugh pretty easily, but he cried when dad tried it, haha!
Zander has found his voice, and boy is he loud! He squeaks and squeals and it is the cutest thing. He has his four month check up in a few days. Unfortunately, he caught grandma's cold and this week has been the worst week with no sleep for both of us. Stephen and I have also caught this dreaded cold from Zander, so we are all a bunch of sickies this week just waiting for it to be over.
