A Little Depressed

I went to Macy's today to use my new stroller and to get out of the house for a few hours. I strolled through all three floors because I had a fifty dollar gift card to use. I looked and looked for something  to wear to church or even just a tee shirt, but the more I looked the more depressed I got. I tried on several different things, but nothing looked good on me or fit right. Sigh.... Go figure. So I started shopping for Stephen and Zander instead. I love shopping for other people and it's a lot easier. I guess I'll have workout a little longer before I can do some real shopping for myself.

I was only gone for two hours, but Zander didn't get in a good nap, so he started fussing before I got to the check out. When I finally did, he was on full crying mode, so one of the sales associates came to my rescue and took the stroller from me and walked Zander around the store a few times while I finished paying for my clothes. She brought him back around again and I thanked her several times for calming him down for me, and she said, "That's what grandmas are for." I don't think she really realized what she did for me; I'm sure it was just a small, simple gesture to her, but to me it was much bigger. I was frustrated, embarrassed, and ready to run out the door. So thank you sales lady for helping me; it meant a lot.

Sickies

I wish I have more interesting things to report every week, but staying home with Zander makes me feel boring. I love getting to play with him all day, but other than that I just try to get the house clean here and there. I have a lot of projects I'd like to work on, but most of them are sewing and I need mom's help.

I've been planning out my activity days for the next few months so I have everything prepared in advance, so that's been taking up some of my time. We had activity days on Tuesday and the theme was "what makes you beautiful" . We talked about the differences on how we view beauty versus how the world sees it. We discussed the 13th article of faith and I made tiaras for the girls and took pictures with them to put up in our primary room. Then for our short activity I had the girls bring a photo of themselves; I put them on decorative paper and had each girl pass them around and write what they thought made that person beautiful. And of course we had to listen to the music video of One Direction's 'That's What Makes You Beautiful' so they could dance and sing along to it. We all had a pretty fun time. I even sang and danced with them!

Zander caught a cold last week. I guess it was only a matter of time because Stephen and I both caught one too. It was kinda hard to know exactly what to do for Zander to help him get through it. Thanks to some good advise from mom and Becky we bought a humidifier and some vapor rub for his feet. He was congested and phlegmy and I was worried about leaving him alone to sleep for fear of him choking or not being able to breathe. He slept through the night the whole time he had his cold though. Today he is as good as new! I'm starting to think he's not going to be a cuddler.  He didn't really like it while he was sick; he wanted to be held but only if I was standing up and walking around, and I don't know about you other moms, but that starts to hurt my back pretty quickly.

Toby came inside one day last week with a bloody face. Looks like he got in a fight with the neighbor's bully cat. I hate that cat he's always coming around our house looking for a fight and he's twice the size of Toby. Toby's ear and cheek got a chunk taken out of him, so I had a sick baby and an injured cat to take care of last week, but they're both doing great now.

Zander Update

Zander is growing SO fast! Like all babies do, but his face is so rounded out now that he doesn't have a neck anymore.

-He'll be three months next week, but has been wearing three month clothes for about three weeks now.

-he loves to stand up! He is the most rigid little boy I've ever seen. It's either lay down or stand up; he does not like the sit up position. When I try to burp him and sit him up its like his legs turn to wood and it's impossible to get him to bend over.

-When I try to swaddle him (he hates to be swaddled) he makes sure his legs are straightened out and his arms are out of the blanket.

-he smiles all the time.

-he loves to watch tv. I try not to have him downstairs very often during the day, but when the tv gets turned on all of his attention is on the screen. It cracks me up because even when I have him on the floor while changing him  or playing with him with the tv behind his head, he'll cock his head back all the way so he can see the screen.

-he is very alert and attentive. He likes to watch and look at things all around him (hence the tv watching). People comment on this all the time because of his age.

-he is not ticklish in the slightest, so I have to come up with other ways to get him to laugh and smile.

-a lot of people think he's older than he really is, even though he's really small for his age. I think it's because his facial features make him look older and more mature looking. His has big eyes, nose, and lips, and "distinguished eyebrows" as Becky puts it. His eyebrows give him so much personality from his facial expressions. All these things are what make him so cute!

-the best way to calm him down is to hold him upright. He doesn't like to be cradled much anymore unless he's super tired. But even then I have to have him upright until he eases into dreamland.

-he still sleeps pretty well through the night only getting up once around 5:00-6:00 am.

-he likes taking baths. He's starting to splash around a bit with his hands and he loves kicking his feet around.

First Day Back

Yesterday was my first, official day back to church with Zander--we went to all three hours. I was really excited and SO ready to be back. I feel like I've been out of the loop for several months. We've had new families move in and move out of the ward and new callings everywhere. I missed being in primary a lot. We have primary first thing in the morning and sacrament last. I even got to church on time!

As soon as I got to church yesterday something unexpected happened....I got super nervous. I walked into primary with my giant car seat and sat down in the back (our primary room is tiny so the back was the only place I could put the car seat down), I said my hellos to teachers, friends, and primary kids, and all of a sudden my legs and arms started shaking really bad. I had no control over them. Why was I so nervous?! I had no reason to be, but the fact that I have a new baby for the first time and I'm in a place where everyone knows me made me nervous. All eyes were on me and Zander; any time he made a sound people would turn around and stare at us--watching me to see what I would do. I don't like being the center of attention. At all. I wasn't as nervous by the time sacrament started, probably because Stephen was with me.

When sharing time got over and it was time for us to go to class all the girls in my class stood up and walked to the back of the room and asked what they could do to help me. I was so happy and proud of my kids. They were all so eager to help me with the baby, so one grabbed my diaper bag, another took my coat, and another girl tried tackling the car seat since I was holding Zander. Haha, it was kind of entertaining watching her struggle with the car seat because she was so determined to get it to the classroom. I, of course, didn't make her carry it because that thing is incredibly heavy, but all my kids love that I have a baby now, even the boys. I was planning on just sitting and listening to the lesson, but the other teacher I teach with didn't show up, so I ended up teaching! Good thing I always come prepared and read the lesson every week. Since I had to teach I had to find Stephen so he could take Zander and feed him. The kids were a little disappointed, but we had fun.

Everyone was excited to see Zander when we got to sacrament meeting. I'll admit it was fun to show him off to everyone, but Stephen still has a cold and wasn't feeling well so we had to leave right after the meeting was over instead of talking to everyone.

Zander's Blessing

Zander was blessed yesterday by Stephen in Stephen's blessing outfit and Dad's sweater and booties that Grandma Stockdale made for him. What a handsome little boy!
