Goldbug Hot Springs Part 1

 I have been SO excited for this trip for over a year. It was originally going to just be my family's vacation. I read about Goldbug somewhere and knew I had to take my family camping even though it was a five hour drive. The kids have been begging to go camping just us for a while. Then at Christmas time when we were at the cabin I mentioned it to Dad and how excited I was to go, and he asked me if he was invited. I told him no, not this time because my kids just want to have it be the 6 of us. He deflated a little bit, lol, so on our way home from the cabin I asked the kids how they would feel about inviting Grandma and Grandpa on our camping trip. They had to think about it for a while and finally said that would be ok. But just grandma and grandpa. And then over time it blossomed to inviting all the family--all the cousins and everyone who would be able to come. As time went on the kids liked the idea of going camping with all their cousins more and more so we shared our vacation with everyone and are so glad we did! We all made great memories together and I always love to have an excuse to see my family. I am so glad Becky's family were also able to make it! We don't get to do stuff like that often. 

The first day was spent on a trail ride through Twin Peaks National Park down the road from Elk Bend. I got to ride a massive black horse named Lori. Grayson was the only one who couldn't go unfortunately. I didn't think he could manage a horse all by himself at his age yet, so he stayed at camp with grandma and grandpa, Linley, Cora, and Tyson. We went in two groups and it was beautiful.

The next day we got up early and set off on our 4 mile roundtrip hike to Goldbug Hot Springs. It was a great hike! Not too easy and not terribly hard. The last leg was a bit hard to climb up all the fallen rocks and I was worried Dad might not make it, but he did! We spent a good chunk of the morning in the hot springs, and then spent the rest of the day resting and playing games.

Saturday we went to Salmon River Days downtown shopping and watched a magic show. Then we went to the demolition derby at the fairgrounds which was so stinking hot in the blistering sun. I thought I was going to melt for sure. Then we ended the night with the fireworks show. What an unbelievable weekend we had. It was perfect.
