You Drank What?!
Two days ago I got up to go feed Lucas as he woke up for the day. Zander wasn't awake yet, and Stephen was getting ready to go to work. I was almost done with Lucas as Stephen left and Zander woke up and came upstairs. He normally always comes into the bedroom to say hello every morning before getting into anything, but this morning was different. Lucas has been teething, so I've been giving him Tylenol to help with the pain. I left the bottle and syringe on the kitchen counter, and Zander thought it'd be a good idea to, somehow, open the childproof lid and drink the bottle of Tylenol.
Zander has always liked taking medicine, and often gets upset when Lucas gets some but he doesn't. I came out to the kitchen to see what Zander was up to, and found 3/4 of my almost full bottle of Tylenol empty. First of all, I couldn't believe he got past the childproofing (but not really because it's Zander), and second, I kinda froze because I didn't know what to do. I knew this was bad, and that I'd probably have to take him to the ER, so I called Stephen first and told him what happened, then I called the urgent care because I didn't want to take him to the ER if it wasn't absolutely necessary. They weren't open yet, so I called the pediatrician office knowing it wasn't open either, but thought I'd check anyway. Then I called Mom, and Dad answered the phone and told me to call Uncle Garth who lives in Arizona. He's a physicians assistant. So I call him, and he told me because it was infants Tylenol Zander would probably be fine, but to check in with my pediatrician just the be safe. I brushed Zander's teeth and tried to gag him with the toothbrush to make him throw up, but that proved very difficult and a huge failure.
Luckily I already had an appointment scheduled that morning for Lucas, but I called the office again to talk to the doctor on-call just to be sure I could wait a few hours before Zander got looked at. I was told the doctor would be paged and call me in a few minutes. So I waited..... an hour later no phone call so I just drove to the office that was now open by this time, and got Lucas checked in and I asked if my doctor could see Zander. This was 2 1/2 hours after Zander overdosed. The first thing the nurse asked me was if I called poison control. I admitted that I didn't, but that I called the office for the doctor on-call and no one got in contact with me.
In short, they ended up sending us to the hospital anyway because it was too late to pump his stomach or give Zander activated charcoal to make him throw up, so we had get his blood drawn to see the levels of acetaminophen that was in his system to make sure it didn't damage his liver. We went home and Zander took a good, long nap. I got the test results back later that afternoon and his levels were at 20 something and they only worry if they exceed 50 so Zander was going to be OK.
I should have called poison control first thing, then just taken him to the ER in retrospect. This would have saved me a lot of time and worry. So I know what to do next time Zander decides to do something stupid, haha.

Ice Castles
I don't usually make resolutions every year, but this year I thought it'd be a good idea since we had a new baby last year and didn't get out much. So my goal this year is to go out on a date at least once a month. I know we should be going out more often than that, but I wasn't in a place where I felt comfortable asking people to watch the boys. I've always known its important to date your spouse and go out without the kids often, but I just never felt like I could.
Now with Zander being two and his biting days behind him, and Lucas is old enough I don't need to nurse him as often, I finally feel ready to let go a little. I think its safe to say I have some control issues, so finding a good babysitter that I feel I can trust, and actually asking has been challenging for me. I know there are a lot of people who would be willing to do it, but asking is hard. With that being said, we missed January because Stephen has been incredibly busy with this stinking trial that I haven't hardly seen him at all, and he's been busy on weekends doing things he couldn't during the week, so we started off this month with the Midway Ice Castles!
As far as I have been told there is nothing quite like these castles in the entire world. They are unique to Utah and started out as a hobby for the creator. They are hand made and incredible works of art. As we drove up to the site they looked way smaller than they do in the pictures, but they were pretty neat as we got to go in and explore a little. They aren't huge, but big enough that we spent about an hour inside before it got too crowded. There were little rooms, tunnels, "Slots Canyon", secret passage ways, and even a slide! We didn't go on the slide because there was a looong line for it, but we had a great time!

"Wa-Why"
Zander loves the "How to Train Your Dragon" movies. For some reason he can't say dragon so his word for it is "wa-why" We have no idea how that came to mean dragon, but it does, and any time Zander sees an alligator or a lizard he calls it a wa-why.
Anyway, last night he was playing in the kitchen with Lucas while I got dinner ready and he tried to sit on Lucas's back, and I told him no. So this is a picture of him crying because I wouldn't let him "ride his dragon".

Boys' Update
ZANDER
I have been working really hard these past few months with Zander trying to get his biting, hitting, scratching, and pinching under control. He would only do it out of anger and frustration...most of the time, and I am happy to report that he has been doing really well with it. I think we are finally past that phase!

He would only do it out of anger and frustration...most of the time, and I am happy to report that he has been doing really well with it. I think we are finally past that phase!
Zander has such a fun, energetic personality. Sometimes it gets a little overwhelming just because I have to keep him busy all the time, and I hardly get any down time for myself, but he is so much fun to play with. He has a great imagination and likes to pretend he is a minion or a monster, or riding a dragon from some of his favorite movies. Not a day goes by that he doesn't hand me a gun to have a shootout in the living room. He will build guns out of anything, and the other day I saw him in the dining room with Lucas. He put a gun in Lucas's hand and held it with him trying to explain how to shoot it.
Zander will get excited about the littlest things if I make it sound exciting for me to do. So clearing off the dinner table, picking up toys, taking a nap, and folding laundry are all really exciting things for him to help me do.
One night we were in the basement and I saw something across the room that really looked like it could be a bug in the carpet. So I went over to examine what it was without touching it, and I still couldn't tell if it was a bug or not, so I bent over and blew on it to see if it'd move. It didn't. Therefore, it was a piece of lint. Zander does this now every time he sees something on the floor he doesn't know what it is. He'll bend down and blow on it to see if it moves before he'll touch it.
He likes to sing and dance. Right now his favorite song to sing is "Five Little Monkeys" and he has to get up and dance when the credits roll after a movie is over no matter how tired he is. We have lots of dance sessions throughout the day to get some energy out.
Right now Zander is in the phase "I can do it by myself" but its usually only on his timetable. For example, (this was all in one day too) We got back from the store, and I asked him to help me carry in a sack. He said no, he didn't want to, so I took it in the house myself. Instead, I gave him the key so he could unlock the door for me, but he was distracted with the snow on the bushes, so he gave the key back to me. I proceeded to unlock the door and set the bags down on the counter and get Lucas out of his seat. Zander walks in and sees the bags on the counter and has a meltdown because he wanted to carry it inside and he wanted the key to unlock the door. So I gave him the sack and sent him outside and locked the door so he could do it himself. He was happy again. After nap time I asked him to help me pick up the toys and put them in the box. He didn't want to, and I didn't feel like fighting him on it, so I picked them up myself and but the box back on the shelf and sat down. Zander then had a fit because he wanted to pick up the toys too, so he took the box off the shelf and dumped it out, so he could pick the toys up by himself. It's always after Stephen and I ask him if he wants to help and he says no, so we do it anyway, then he wants to do it himself. This happens many times throughout the day.
One night Stephen came home from work--he opened the door and Zander ran in the room and said, "Well, well, well!" Stephen looked at me and said Zander spends too much time with me, lol. I say that when Zander is getting into something in another room when its quiet, I'll go look for him and say, "Well, well, well, what do we have here?" Zander thinks that's funny.
He loves peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. This is usually what he eats for lunch most days, and he likes to make it himself. He also likes pancakes, grapes, and beans.
Zander is learning his colors and shapes.
The past few months Zander has been having a hard time sleeping. He'll go down fine, but he'll wake up in the middle of the night several times and cry and come upstairs to sleep in our bed. It has been driving us crazy, so we made a bed for him on the floor in our room for the times he refuses to go back downstairs just so he doesn't cry and wake up Lucas. I also made him a sleeping chart where he can put a sticker on it every time he stays in his bed. He also gets a special treat in the morning if he stays in his bed all night. This has also been working really well so far.
We found out recently that he is getting his final molars in and he may have to have his tonsils removed. I'm pretty sure these two things have been the cause of him waking up so often. poor boy!
LUCAS
Lucas will be eight months old next week! I can't believe it. He's going to be one before we know it, and walking and talking. I amdreading looking forward to it so he can play and pal around with Zander. The more he moves, the more I have to baby proof and keep an eye on him and Zander so no one gets hurt, lol.
He got his first tooth!
He says da-da.
He hates being on his belly, so he has no motivation to crawl or even move around for that matter. He just lays there sobbing waiting for someone to pick him up or sit him up. He doesn't even stand or use his legs either. He's just a big blob for now. He loves to play in his jumpy swing though.
Lucas has built up a tolerance to Zander's roughhousing, and even finds some of it to be funny now.
He loves to eat. All. The. Time. He's about 18 lbs now so pretty average for his age, but he's a solid tank-of-a-kid. He likes to feed himself, and is now eating table food.
He has been sleeping through the night except for recently since he's teething, but he does really well at night.
Lucas hates getting dressed. I can take his clothes and diaper off and have him laughing, but as soon as I have to diaper and dress him, he screams bloody murder as he flops and flails around on the changing table like a hooked tuna fish.
He doesn't like to be left alone in room to play by himself, so he has to go with me everywhere I go.
Lucas is pretty mild mannered, but we'll see how long that lasts as he gets older.
He likes to be held and cuddled.
I love my boys! I'm so glad they have each other; I love being their mom and getting to teach them, and give them hugs and kisses.
