San Diego Trip Part 2

Some funny things the kids said on this trip:

Lucas to Zander: "If we were rich guess what I'd buy? I'd go to the store and buy a 6 foot sub."

Grayson: "Mom, look at what I got. I got a soda with caffeine in it! (Shows me a cola gummy he got in his gummy snacks candy bag)

We're going out for ice cream and Grayson didn't eat anything for dinner, so he didn't get to have ice cream. He sighs sadly and says, "I guess I'll have to stay hot."

We stayed our last night in Vegas on our way home in a really nice hotel room that didn't have smart tvs in it. There was "just" cable tv. The kids had been up since 5:00 AM watching tv and Hannah was whining that there are just ads that are never ending and she started to cry. Lucas told me he lost the remote, so I went in their room to find that they've been watching infomercials for the last hour, hahaha!

We passed by the San Diego temple. Unfortunately it  was closed for renovations, so this is as good as it got. We took the kids to the Point Loma tide pools, the lighthouse, and the beach.

Whose handprint is that?

Lastly we visited the USS Midway Museum. I loved this one. There was an air of respect that you could feel as you stepped onboard. Stephen and I watched the movie Midway with Zander the night before so he could get a sense of what the aircraft carrier did and the part it played in the war. We got to do a flight simulator and go inside some of the aircrafts. This ship was huge! The kids did the junior pilot program to earn their wings at the end of our tour.

Swimming and ice cream cones topped off our trip!

San Diego Trip Part 1

We took a weeklong vacation in San Diego; we've been saving up for the vacation for five years! I had all these grand plans and visions in my head as to how this was going to be, but of course, you also have to plan for bumps in the road and we had bumps--quite a few, but it did not stop us from having fun. First, I made a cardboard "map" to hang up in the car with a moving car so the kids could see where we were and how close we were getting to our destination without having to constantly ask "Are we there yet? How much longer? etc..." We drove the whole 12 hours in one day so we could just travel and sleep the first day so we'd be ready for the next day full of fun. We saw Zzyzx Road!

Lucas found a huge Angel trumpet flower. I had to tell him those are highly poisonous, but they smell amazing.

We went to a really cool 50s diner for dinner one night.

Monday was our zoo day. The whole week turned out to be cloudy and cold. Monday was probably the best day to be out. This zoo was amazing! They had so many animals and places for kids to play on several different playsets and a splash pad. We got to see the pandas! and Lucas had to get a backside shot of the gorillas.

Grayson bought himself a jawbreaker sucker and licked it to the very center to see how many layer there were. Last he counted there were 19.

Poor Zander had a rough night. He got sick with the flu the week before our trip and that turned into a double ear infection. I took him to the urgent care near by to get him some meds so he could try to enjoy his time at Legoland. He has been looking forward to this for a very long time.

Tuesday was Legoland
